Overview

The Ergonomics Center offers a wide range of virtual and on-demand training options designed to meet the needs of diverse organizations and learners. Our virtual courses mirror the content and quality of our onsite workshops, while our computer-based, on-demand modules allow employees to learn at their own pace—anytime, anywhere.

Whether you need foundational ergonomics knowledge, advanced design content, or customized training for your workforce, we provide accessible, high-quality instructional solutions.

On-Demand, Computer-Based Training (CBT)

Ergonomics for Engineers: Design for Human Performance

A comprehensive, modular course designed to guide engineers and design professionals in applying ergonomic principles to products and processes.

Course Structure:

  • 17 modules, 20–55 minutes each
  • Includes retention quizzes and 3 practical exercises

Who Should Take This Course:
Engineers, planners, procurement staff, maintenance/facilities personnel, and others involved in designing products, workstations, tools, equipment, fixtures, or processes.

Why Take It:
To strengthen ergonomic design capabilities and support better engineering, planning, and procurement decisions.

Total Duration:
Approximately 12 hours to complete all modules, quizzes, and practicals.
Learners must pass all quizzes and practicals to receive course credit.

Industrial Ergonomics Recognition Training

An introduction to the fundamentals of industrial ergonomics.

Course Structure:

  • 3 modules, 15–20 minutes each
  • Includes retention quizzes

Who Should Take This Course:
Managers, supervisors, and employees working in industrial environments.

Why Take It:
To learn how to recognize, evaluate, and control ergonomic risk factors that affect employee safety, performance, and operations.

Total Duration:
Approximately 45 minutes.
Learners must complete all modules and pass quizzes to receive course credit.

Office Ergonomics Recognition Training

A foundational course covering the basics of office ergonomics.

Course Structure:

  • 3 modules, 10–20 minutes each
  • Includes retention quizzes

Who Should Take This Course:
Employees who work in an office environment.

Why Take It:
To gain the knowledge needed to recognize and address office ergonomic risk factors affecting comfort and safety.

Total Duration:
Approximately 45 minutes.
Learners must complete all modules and pass quizzes to receive course credit.

Custom Computer-Based Ergonomics Awareness Training

We can develop fully customized CBT programs for your employees, supervisors, and managers. Courses can be tailored to your ergonomics process, workplace conditions, and learning management system requirements. Modules may focus on either industrial or office ergonomics.

Employee Awareness Training – Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn to:

  • Describe elements of the company’s ergonomics process and how employees support it
  • Define ergonomics and explain its importance
  • Define MSDs and identify common symptoms
  • Understand the importance of early reporting and appropriate reporting steps
  • Identify ergonomic risk factors contributing to WMSDs
  • Recognize neutral posture and its effect on risk
  • Apply simple improvements in industrial or office environments
  • Demonstrate proper lifting techniques and body mechanics

Supervisor and Manager Awareness Training – Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn to:

  • Understand management’s role in providing ergonomic resources
  • Explain the importance of ergonomics and early reporting
  • Define MSDs, symptoms, and reporting procedures
  • Identify ergonomic risk factors contributing to WMSDs
  • Recognize the fatigue impact of non-neutral postures
  • Understand medical intervention options and management’s role in supporting injured employees
  • Identify simple ergonomic improvements
  • Apply engineering and administrative controls appropriately
