SUMMARY:Industrial Ergonomics Process Workshop (IEPW)-Raleigh\, NC Offering
DESCRIPTION:This comprehensive workshop guides participants through each facet of the cyclic ergonomics process from basic ergonomics principles through control development and workstation design guidelines. This workshop meets the objectives of the OSHA #2255 Principles of Ergonomics course. \nPurpose: To introduce the participants to basic ergonomic principles and addresses topics such as: musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs)\, identifying and prioritizing ergonomic stressors\, determining root causes\, analysis techniques\, developing appropriate control measures\, cost justification\, and design criteria. This workshop prepares the participants to work in a team environment to conduct ergonomics assessments for the control of risk factors that cause WMSDs. The course mixes lecture and laboratory to allow all participants to apply techniques. \nObjectives:  After attending this course\, participants will be able to: \n\nDescribe elements of the client’s ergonomics process and how individual employees can support it.\nDefine ergonomics and why it is important.\nDefine MSDs and give examples.\nList MSD symptoms and explain the importance of early reporting.\nIdentify risk factors that contribute to WMSDs.\nExplain the importance of working in neutral postures and how it affects fatigue.\nAppropriately prioritize jobs based upon risk factors present\, injury data\, and interviews with employees/supervisors.\nUse the Industrial Ergonomics Screening Tool to perform general ergonomic assessments.\nUse the Strain Index and RULA Assessment Tools to analyze jobs with ergonomic risk factors associated with the upper extremities.\nUse the NIOSH Lifting Guidelines and Manual Materials Handling Tables to analyze jobs with ergonomic risk factors associated with the low back.\nLearn to utilize the Center’s software tool (ErgoDATA) for ergonomics analysis.\nUse problem solving teams to develop appropriate intervention strategies for the reduction of WMSD risk factors.\nSupport the deployment of the site ergonomics process.\nLearn about workstation design criteria and hand tool design\n\nClasses are held from 9:00AM – 4:30PM Monday through Thursday. \nFee: \n\n$1800 or $1350 which includes a Professional Membership\n3.0 Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) awarded through NC State University\n4 Days\, 30 Instructional Hours – 30 MESH Hours (Manager of Environmental Safety and Health)

SUMMARY:Ergonomics for Engineers: Design for Human Performance-Virtual Offering
DESCRIPTION:This comprehensive course covers the key elements of the appropriate design of products and workspaces for the human user. Engineers armed with a deep understanding of ergonomics are better equipped to create products that not only function more efficiently but also enhance the user experience. At the conclusion of this course\, participants will have a more holistic grasp on all the considerations required to produce quality designs while also learning how to increase efficiency\, reduce injuries\, and improve overall performance.  We will emphasize the principles of human-centered design\, placing the user at the core of the engineering process. A significant portion of the course will be dedicated to anthropometric design\, where we examine the dimensions and physical capabilities of the human body. From office spaces to manufacturing plants\, we will discuss how the physical environment impacts human performance and well-being\, and how engineers can shape these spaces for optimal results. \nThis course mixes interactive lecture and hands-on exercises to allow all participants to learn and apply techniques. \nObjectives:  After attending this course\, participants will be able to: \n\nUnderstand the principles of human-centered design and its applications in engineering.\nPossess the skills to apply anthropometric data in designing products that cater to a diverse user base.\nRecognize the significance of environmental factors in shaping ergonomic solutions.\nAnalyze and critique existing designs from an ergonomic perspective.\n\nDetails \n\nWorkshop is offered in-person\, at your company site\, or virtually.\nTraining Fee: $1950/$1650 for members (if you have 5 or more registrants contact us for pricing information)\nRoyalty fee for customized design checklists and resource guides for each individual are included in the cost\n2.0 Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) available at registration through NC State University\nLunch is provided for Center hosted In-Person offerings
